das ist nicht so falsch mit dem sweets-craving. ich trink nämlich ganz selten kaffee, und wenn dann meistens weil ich einen faschingskrapfen esse, weil das so gut zusammenpasst. zuletzt praktiziert am sonntag.

es ist bis dato signifikant häufig - nämlich zu 100% - der fall, dass jedesmal, wenn ich ein vorstellungsgespräch habe, ein temperatursturz zu vermerken ist. ein blick auf das thermometer sagt mir: morgen ist es wieder soweit, bei minus 2 grad.
und zieht man in betracht, dass alle bisher erfolgten gespräche nicht zu einer anstellung geführt haben, wirft das für mich die frage auf: wie warm muss es bei einem jobtermin sein, damit dieser in die beschäftigung führt?
ich tippe auf fahradtemperatur, schließlich möchte ich auch hinkünftig per drahtesel ins büro fahren können.

gestern hab ich mich dabei ertappt, wie ich mit der windows-katze gespielt und gesprochen habe.



die animationen sind wohl unterhaltsam, aber richtig antworten tut das pixelige haustier ja nu nicht. die katze schaut noch nicht mal vorwurfsvoll, wie alle katzen, wenn das schüsselchen leer ist.

ich bewerbe mich ja nunmehr regelmäßig. am samstag zum beispiel waren drei ansprechende annoncen (sprich annongsen, damits auch die deutschen verstehen *fg*) im standard und ich hab auch brav drei briefchen geschrieben, meinen lebenslauf und mein letztes dienstzeugnis drangepappt (sprich attacht, damits auch die nerds verstehen *g*) und per mausklick in die wundervolle netzwelt entsendet. eine der annongsen sagte irgendwas von japanischer botschaft und assistenzlehrer für englisch blabla. ich mag botschaften.
heute hab ich also prompt eine antwort in meiner inbox, von einer botschaftsangestellten, dass ich diese und jene formulare ausfüllen solle und dass man leider noch nicht sagen könne, wo genau denn der 'dienstort in japan' sein werde.
ich hab mich echt versehentlich für einen job in japan beworben.
treffen sie mich also rasch, solange ich noch im europäischen raum beheimatet bin.

ich hab mich also jetzt doch mit dem auftritt morgen befasst. es war ja keine ausrede mehr über. naja, fenster putzen hätt ich noch können, aber bei dieser kälte empfiehlt sich das nicht.
meine rubrik soll nun also "schöne wörter" heißen, und sich mit spannenden details des sprachlichen alltags beschäftigen. liguistik für anfänger mit yours truly, sozusagen.
wenn ihr also immer schon wissen wolltet, wie das lange i in unsere sprache gekommen ist oder was eine monophthongisierung ist, dann könnt ihr euch morgen abend im dietheater konzerthaus bei der ersten monochrom taugshow informieren.
falls ihr dem livekonzept ablehnend gegenüber steht oder verhindert sein werdet, könnt ihr euch das teil auch später noch auf dem community tv kanal okto anschauen.

this inbetween thing raises lots of questions. like, why didn't i get the job i wanted? will i have to take this other job i don't really want? what would happen if my tv was taken away from me? was it meant to be that i can't have a cat?
or the most interesting of them all: why don't i have all those rolls of film processed that are piling up at my desk ever since the jake lent me his camera? is it fear, ignorance, or that i just can't be bothered?
and why don't i get my ass up to finally write whatever it is i'm going to say on tomorrow's show? i even wrote a blog entry to prevent me from doing it.

teil 2 - lebensmittel:
darüber, wie schwierig es ist, sich alle paar monate in einem neuen duft wiederzufinden, weil die deohersteller neuerdings 'kollektionen' haben müssen und dadurch dem europäischen markt die kontinuität verloren geht, habe ich mich schon hier beschwert. nun sieht es so aus, als ob einem schmackhaften produkt aus der lebenmittelabteilung der garaus gemacht werden soll. das wäre natürlich nicht das erste mal der fall. schon mein lieblingsjoghurt (landliebe haselnuss) - das einzige joghurt, das je den weg zu meinem herzen fand, meine lieblingsschokolade (milka mandelsplitter) und meine lieblingssauce beim subway (horseradish) wurden unerwart wieder aus dem sortiment genommen. meine mutter meinte damals, als beim subway die horseradish sauce für immer aus meinem leben verschwand, sehr treffend, dass es eben auch schon konzerne seien, die bestimmen, was uns schmecken darf.
das produkt, das vermutlich während meines mehrwöchigen auslandsaufenthaltes auf die rote liste geraten ist, ist die iglo pizza 'diavolo steinofen' und die landet bei mir gut zweimal pro woche im umluftbackrohr. irgendwie fühle ich mich wie jene alte dame, die in den vorüberschreitern zitiert wird, weil sie im supermarkt nach den wurstknödeln gefragt hat. auf die antwort der verkäuferin: 'wurschtknödel hamma nimma' reagierte sie mit einem verzweifelten 'und was soll i jetzt essen?'
eben!

now what does it mean when your hangover lasts significantly longer than the party that caused it? i'm afraid it means that you're finally too old to pretend you're still young enough not to drink that glass of water between your alcoholic beverages *sigh*.

it' weird, but ever since i'm between jobs i get up really early in the morning. like between 4 and 6 am. i always thought, i was a veritable owl, but i'm probably not. it first struck me in jamaica, which seemed to be my perfect time and climate zone. i always woke up between 7 and 8 in the morning and wanted to go to bed between 10 and 11 at night.
maybe it has something to do with the fact that the prospects for the day weren't unpleasant at all in jamaica. and they aren't here any more, now. i don't have to take a shower (i didn't in jamaica since we went swimming after breakfast anyways, so i showered before dinner, which is a lot better!) and i don't have to go to work. i have the laptop all to myself since the grenz is still asleep and i can watch tv, read, or prepare whatever food i like. no hurry!
now that's what i call a good morning.

first i thought, i didn't work, because we both were unable to get up at 11 when the alarm went off. we dragged ourselves out of bed at half past 12 anyways, because all the stores were to close at 2.
now, after some hours of unpacking and watching the grinch, some glasses of caffeinated soda and the abominable shower i think it pretty much worked - no jetlag! oh, how i hate to shower! it's an annoyingly wet and all too swotty practice of hygiene, as far as i am concerned. i tell you a secret: sometimes, when i don't have to leave the house, i even skip the artificial rain ritual. but not today, of course. we're leaving for our artist in residence's studio at the museumsquarter soon. both our bags have been delivered by austrian airline and johannes is preparing the dessert for our dinner with the francesca and a bunch of strangers. i am really stunned at how brave i am, facing a christmas full of strangers. i never know how i react, for if i don't like people i'm prone to behave badly. but then, i can easliy fake jetlag as a pretext to leave early, i guess.
it was my grandmother who kept saying year after year that christmas was to be spent with the family only, and she would not allow boyfriends or other 'aliens' at her christmas dinner. breaking old family habits again, are we?
anyways, gotta get dressed...

well, we almost got stuck in washington, dc, but we are back home. some of our bags aren't, though. maybe they'll be here tomorrow.
it was so cold in florida, i'm actually kinda glad to be back. it's not as if it were any warmer in austria, but the problem with florida is that they only get about 10 cold days a year, so these people seem to be unfamiliar with the concept of 'heating'. when it's cold, they seem to think: nice, now we can finally turn off the ac for a day, cause it's cold anyway.
i was freezing in the mall, complaining about the cold in the cinema and i bought an extra warm blanket for our apartment. nobody else seems to really care. so, i'll probably not visit florida in december again.
anyways, i'm gonna miss florida's holiday radio stations. and i loved the new potter movie so much, i went to see it for a second time, even though i knew i was going to be so cold in the theatre.
i'm trying to follow jake's advice on avoiding jetlag and to stay up until 10pm today, even though i hardly slept on the plane and it's 5 more hours to go. johannes didn't make it, he's fast asleep on the couch.

here's some pictures of the everglades. we went there and took an airboat tour on our last day in miami. of course, they also had a little zoo attached and they did gator wrestling shows.

however, parrots make real good models ...







... whereas gators really don't.



they may be hard to spot, but at least now i know that alligators occur in china and in florida only.

two things worth telling happened during our trip from jamaica back to miami. the one is that my bottle of apple cider vinegar obviously broke on the way, because it was removed from my bag and all the shoes i carried in that bag now smell like vinegar. if you don't know why i travel with apple cider vinegar already, you can find that information somewhere in june.
the other one is that when we immigrated, i accidentally tried to put the wrong finger on the fingerprint scanner. problem was: i can't even tell my fingers apart in german, let alone in english, so when he told me to put my index finger on the thing, i just guessed - wrongly. and the immigration officer obviously thought it was something personal. first i didn't realize that but after the scanning thing we had to pass another officer on our way to customs and he would't let johannes pass because our officer rodriguez (i always read their name plates because there's nothing else to do anyways) had written a clear '1' on the customs form and - being two people - we needed a '2'. what pissed me off about it was that mr. other officer treated me like it was my fault and made me go back all the way to mr. rodriguez and ask for my 2. so i did, adressing him with his name, loud voice and all, he painted the one into a two and off i went back to mr. other officer. somewhere behind me, i heard yet another officer teasing: 'outstanding performance'.
